What are Radio Aid systems?

Radio aid systems are personal wireless communication devices that in most cases are connected to a hearing-impaired person’s hearing instrument (Hearing aids, Cochlear Implant or Bone anchored hearing aid etc.).

Why do we need Radio Aid Systems?

Modern Hearing aids and Cochlear implants are amazingly clever devices, however hearing at distance and in noisy environments like a classroom or office can still cause problems for many users. If the person speaking is over two metres away from hearing-impaired person, it can be very difficult for the hearing-impaired person to understand what is being said even if they have been fitted with the most up-to-date hearing instrument. Radio Aid systems help to overcome this issue by sending the speakers’ voice directly to the hearing-impaired user without relying on the microphone in the hearing device.

How do Radio Aid systems work?

The speaker wears a wireless microphone (transmitter) around their neck that wirelessly transmits their voice to a small receiver that is built in or connected to the users’ hearing instrument, allowing the effects of distance and background noise to be overcome.
